Police Unity Tour - Our History ![]() In 1997, Florham Park (NJ) Police Officer Patrick Montuore had a simple idea: organize a four-day bicycle ride from New Jersey to Washington, DC to raise public awareness about law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty, and to ensure that their sacrifice is never forgotten. With that, the Police Unity Tour was formed. What started with 18 riders on a four day fund-raising bicycle ride from Florham Park, NJ to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, D.C. has grown into 8 chapters consisting of nearly 2,100 members nationwide who make the trip annually. CHAPTER IX - OUR HISTORY
Chapter IX was formed in 2011, with our inaugural ride in 2012, to provide riders and support members an opportunity to have a more personal experience while completing the Police Unity Tour. Our founding members included New Castle County Police (DE) and Howard County Police Department (MD). Since Chapter IX's creation, we have become home to members from Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Iowa, New York, Massachusetts, Georgia, South Carolina, and Florida. Our diverse membership has provided lifelong friendships all across the country. Our Chapter is unique and continues to focus on the mission "We Ride For Those Who Died". We start each morning with inspirational words of remembrance and dedication to our fallen brothers and sisters. As we travel each day we have the opportunity to stop and recognize our heroes with Memorial Wreath Dedications at various stops. Our Chapter ensures each hero we are riding for is recognized at one of these memorial stops. It is paramount to our leadership to recognize the dedication and sacrifice our members put forth for their heroes. Our route is tough, and our miles are hard, but we dedicate ourselves to our fallen each day to bring them home. |
